The Beautiful Bridport Area in West Dorset
Hembury Mill is situated in a secluded and peaceful setting, within a
sheltered valley on the Eastern outskirts of Askerswell, close to
Eggardon Hill. Hembury Mill stands with Hembury House and Hembury Barn along
a private unmade track, away from the main round and is surrounded by open
countryside, in a area of outstanding natural beauty. Hembury Mill is only
1/2 mile from Askerswell village and pub.
The Jurassic Coast
The Village of Askerswell has a village hall, church and public house. The market town of Bridport is only 5 miles away and is the gateway to the Jurassic coast. The town has a range of business and shopping facilities, together with a twice weekly market. There is also a thriving arts centre and numerous little restaurants and cafe’s, many with pavement seating.
Beautiful Beaches
Within easy reach is the West Dorset coastline with world famous heritage status. The villages of Burton Bradstock and West Bay both have good bathing beaches. West Bay was recently used in the popular ITV programme Broadchurch so you may recognise the famous East Cliff on the beach.
Towns Further Afield
Askerswell is about 11 miles from the County town of Dorchester. The popular resorts of Weymouth and Portland (where some of the 2012 Olympics were held) is approximately 17 miles away. To the west of Askerswell after West Bay are the famous fossil beaches of Charmouth and Lyme Regis.
Worldwide Acclaim of Lyme Regis
Lyme Regis is a short drive along the coast to the West or you can hop on the Jurassic Bus that goes back and forth every hour along the A35 coastal road. Situated at the heart of the Jurassic Coast, Lyme Regis is a major centre for fossil collecting and is recognised and acclaimed worldwide. The small, picturesque town has so much to do with a range of independent shops, cafe’s and restaurants, a beautiful public garden with golf and table tennis. Whatever the weather, Lyme is always the place to be.
Fishing at West Bay
Very good fishing can be found from boats at West Bay, Weymouth and Lyme Regis. Shore fishing is excellent all along the 17 miles of Chesil Beach and only a few minutes away from the cottage at Burton Bradstock.
Walking The Coastal Paths
Dorset is a walker’s paradise with over 300 coastal and countryside paths to choose from. There is a delightful walk of varied scenery and interest right in our adjacent field which takes you to the top of Eggardan Hill. Here you can take in the amazing views across the ‘Hardy’ countryside and out to sea from the iron age hill fort.
