Two Holiday Cottages at Hembury Mill – The Mill and Cider Barn
Get away from it all in our beautifully restored Mill which still has its original machinery, or the former Cider Barn next door. The holiday accommodation has been sympathetically converted to a high standard, combining historic character with modern convenience and style. Set within 7.5 acres with an acre of gardens and an orchard, the location is rural yet within walking distance of the village of Askerswell which has a church and lovely village pub.
Our smallholding is tucked away down a private track, near the dramatic slopes of Eggardon Hill with its distant views of the Jurassic Coast and the Marshwood Vale. Both holiday properties have the use of a large outside space and orchard with facilities for ball games, swings and wild play in the stream and pond – perfect for children young and old with an interest in nature and wildlife.
In spring, you can watch the antics of our lambs, and we also have pigs and chickens – just ask if you’d like to help with feeding the animals.
Nearby Askerswell village has a lovely pub for lunches or evening meals, or you can venture to Bridport for more places to eat and shop. Fossil-hunting at Charmouth is another popular local activity, or why not visit the lovely beach at West Bay, made famous by TV’s “Broadchurch”?

Shaun was extremely helpful during our whole stay and communication was excellent. Any issues we did have he sorted straight away and nothing was too much bother.
The only downside for us (and this is purely due to our circumstances) is the lack of blinds covering the skylight in top bedroom. This with the light mornings unfortunately woke our 3 month old very early most mornings however for anyone without a baby this would not be an issue. The only other thing again due to having a young baby was the lack of doors in the property. This meant sound carried around a lot and was a little difficult when settling him for the night. Again this would not be an issue had we not had a baby with us. The property itself has some lovely grounds and the kids enjoyed finding the chickens at the top of the garden. All in all a lovely property for families or friends just a few things to note if taking a baby.read less

We enjoyed local walks from the cottage including the walk up Eggardon hill with stunning views all around. The cottage was spotlessly clean and the kitchen very well-equipped with a generous welcome basket of provisions. There were very useful information sheets for the central heating etc. The cottage stayed warm throughout and the log burner gave added warmth and cosiness in the evenings. Logs and newspaper were provided which was very helpful. We felt very at home very quickly! This really was a home from home, with a very comfortable bed and a hot, powerful shower in the bathroom. Once we had settled in Shaun introduced himself to us and told us to let him know if there was anything we needed. We had everything that we needed to enjoy our stay and felt very relaxed and refreshed at the end of the week.read less
